Lisa Lopez-Escobar (Lilo)

Associate

“As a queer first-generation Latinx daughter of immigrants I am passionate about creating nurturing educational environments that are spaces of belonging and joy for every child. I joined SRC because I wanted to be part of a likeminded team that values equity and views education as a vehicle for social justice. I believe in the power of community focused research to reimagine structures and create systemic solutions.”

LiLo’s strong sense of purpose and commitment allows her to retain her convictions when challenges arise. Combined with her methodical problem-solving skills LiLo can analyze the grainy details while maintaining the bigger picture.

LiLo has expertise in mixed methods community-engaged research including qualitative research methods, such as in-depth interviews and focus groups and qualitative survey design.  She has content expertise in immigration and education and the role of schools in creating spaces of belonging for youth. At SRC she supports projects.

LiLo began her professional career working in after school spaces with immigrant and newcomer youth. This community engaged work sparked her interest in education policy and advocacy. She received a M.A. in Educational Transformation from Georgetown University in 2020 and is currently pursuing her doctorate at the University of Maryland, College Park with a focus on using Youth Participatory Action Research to create ecosystems of care in schools for the holistic wellbeing of Latinx immigrant youth.
