Equity in Early Learning Initiative (EELI)
We launched the Equity In Early Learning Initiative (EELI) in spring 2016 in order to nurture an ecosystem of leadership for equity in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
Section Styles eeli-strategy
EELI supports leaders in addressing historical inequities at all levels—individual practices, organizational approaches, and institutional policies—to create the conditions for every child to experience an early childhood education that leads to success in school and life.
Our strategy supports…
Communities of Practice
Convening local early learning leaders to collaboratively deepen their knowledge of race and equity issues to plan for and initiate concrete action for systemic change
Symposiums
Hosting symposiums to highlight the story and progress of EELI, as well as other equity-focused leadership opportunities across the region
Professional Learning
Facilitating professional learning opportunities for early learning educators leading to the creation of demonstration classrooms for showcasing and documenting the implementation of equitable practices
Classroom Observation Tool
Creating an equity-focused needs assessment process and tool that highlights areas of classroom practice and supports teachers in their work of facilitating high quality, equitable programming
Resources
Co-creating an ongoing compendium of equity-focused resources in partnership with and for families to use to guide their personal development and to help support their children’s knowledge of race and equity
Platform
Designing a comprehensive, evolving equity platform to share current research, existing best practices and lessons learned from local strategies with the larger early childhood field
